I wrote last month about some physicians becoming all "entrepreneurial" and selling prescriptions direct from their office to workers comp patients at huge mark-ups...and that a loophole in our state laws let them. (See, the patient doesn't know or care about the mark-up, since they're not paying.)
I mentioned this to my sister because she works in risk management and thus deals with workers comp among other issues.
Today she sent me this update (source unknown...some alert email she's signed up for):
Action Deferred on California Workers' Comp Bill
A bill (SB 292) that would close a loophole in California's workers' comp laws that allows doctors to profit from markups on prescription drugs they sell to their patients was tabled in the closing days of the current legislative session. Although the measure passed the Senate on a 40-0 vote, the bill died as the Assembly deferred final action of all workers' comp measures until next year.
No mention of why they decided to table it unfortunately.
