The other day I told the story of my colleague, the cancer survivor, who never heard from his doctor about the results of a blood test re-take...and didn't call to find out for sure that all was well. This on top of the fact the my S.O. had an issue for which he went and had a blood test, a stress test and an ultrasound and also never called the doctor when the docotor didn't call him.
I wondered what it would take to find a man who would actually call the doctor.
Well, apparently it takes talking to a guy who thinks it makes him "a woman" to say that he would definitely have called his doctor after that blood test re-take! Bear in mind that I didn't even bring the gender thing up! He did, unbidded.
If our society is teaching guys that proactive concern for their own health somehow reduces their masculinity, we are in trouble indeed! I just can't quite buy it, though.
