If you've been reading the comments to my two posts about the patients-as-customers idea, you read Henry from InsureBlog saying he had an upcoming post that was going to address these issues pretty specifically.
Part I has been published today.
He interviews the guy who runs a pretty new program for Aetna designed to give the insured a unique transparent view into the costs of their health care.
I guess the only thing that's not clear to me is whetehr the published costs are total costs (both patient and carrier portion in total) or just the cost to the patient. Because there's always this rigmarole where some portion of a doctor's fee is "written off" between the carrier and the provider.
Interesting stuff...and hopefully a sign of things to come.

.
Good catch, Elisa! The "negotiated rate" is the total amount due at time of service.
IOW, it's the "bottom line."
Hope that helps...
Thanx for the link!
