Well, finally, after years of wrangling, it looks like the Plan B emergency contraceptive solution will be heading to a pharmacy or "licensed clinic" near you. Source: New York Times
The big old compromise that somehow broke the logjam was the concession that only women 18 and over can buy it OTC, with anyone younger still required to get a prescription.
This makes Matthew over at the HealthCare Blog really, really cranky.
And some of his commenters are already helpfully suggesting how younger teens can get around the restriction. (And wondering about potentially nefarious reasons a man might want to purchase the pill...truly icky thought, thanks guys!)
Meanwhile Logan over at the Elexa blog (a blog about sex and relationships sponsored by Elexa by Trojan no less!) encourages us all to go buy some Plan B, even if we don't need it, as a statement..."just because we can." As you can see by my comment on the post, I like the idea.
Although I admit to being torn because all that money will just go into the coffers of a big pharma company. Sigh. The politics of health care can get very messy indeed.
