You may notice a new, fancy-looking widget in my top left side bar. This is the new BlogHers Act widget that provides quick links to how you can get more information and how you can help. We've launched a new section of the BlogHer site focused on this initiative, so urge you to go visit there too. Now, links to resources and information and the latest BlogHers Act actions can all be found on that one place. Before it was a BlogHer topic or category like any other, which made it a bit hard to find the specific info you might want, particularly if it was more than a couple of weeks old.
The widget is designed to be imported into the sidebar of your own blogs, so you can easily point your readers to the project, whether they want to learn more or dive right in and pledge to help.
I'm a little bummed the pledge poll isn't a widget itself that can be imported into individual blogs, but apparently there was an issue with collecting the pledge information properly, so you do have to go to the BlogHers Act site to make your pledge and meky it heard!
What? You don't remember what BlogHers Act is? Well, of course you can go here to find out, but here's the short version:
BlogHers Act is our community's initiative to improve the world by harnessing the power of women online. In 2007-2008, we're blogging to save women's lives by improving maternal health
And why maternal health as the inaugural BlogHers Act issue? here's more form the site:
Are you aware that maternity is a leading killer of women worldwide? It's true. Every minute of every day, somewhere in the world a woman loses her life because of issues related to pregnancy or giving birth.
Even in the U.S., the problem has actually increased a bit in recent years, even as you'd expect it to be becoming obsolete.
Many of you, like me, may not be a mother or plan to be a mother. But we have mothers, and we have lovers who have mothers, and we have people in our lives, all of whom had a mother.
So, it kinda affects us all.
