...but it is rather pervasive, and often overlooked.
Some interesting links for those of you who get blue of the holidays:
1. Depression: What Kind Do You Have? by my favorite depression doc-blogger, Dr. Neubaurer
2. A couple of posts from BlogHer spcifically for those of us who get blue, not red and green over the holidays:
-How to deal with Post-Holiday Relationship Blues by Susan Mernit
-When the holidays just plain hurt by MataH
3. A link to a new site and online community for those dealing with depression and bipolar disorder called Facing Us, brought to you by The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA).
I'm honestly a little concerned that so much of Facing Us is behind a registration barrier. I totally get why you might require registration to let someone comment, for example, in the community portion of the site. BlogHer requires registration to enable any kind of content creation on the site...mostly to encourage a sense of accountability and community and discourage anonymous trolling. We respect privacy and the concept of anonymity or pseudonymity by allowing registration with only a username and valid email address. But all content can be read without registering.
Facing Us also has a pretty low bar for registering (Name, Email, Zip Code) and certainly if you really wanted to you could give a pseudonym and fake a zip code. But all of their intriguing looking sections (namely the Wellness "Book", Wellness "Plan" and Wellness Tips) are behind that registration barrier. I'm intrigued wondering what they've got there, but I don't want to register to see it...is that so wrong? I think they should re-think...at least give people in need wellness tips without registering, have a heart!
So, someone less registration-averse than I: tell me what I'm missing! Please?
OK, I'm soon heading off to my low-key, non-"fabulous" but I'm sure perfectly nice New Year's Eve. Be safe everyone...see you on the other side!
